Today, Jan. 29, the girls basketball team plays No. 2 ranked Warren Central at Cathedral for the first game of Sectionals.
Last year, Warren eliminated the girls team in the sectional championship and would later go on to win the state championship. The Panthers are currently 18-6 with their leading scorer being Jasmine McWilliams who is averaging 13.5 points per game.
In the last game of the season, the Panthers lost to Warren at home with a score of 72-65. This game was the first of the two matchups against Warren, however this time, it will be a win-or-go-home scenario. Other teams in this sectional include Arsenal Tech, Cathedral, Heritage Christian, Lawrence Central, and Lawrence North.
This game means a lot to the team as they will look to advance in the state tournament. If they defeat Warren Central, they will face Lawrence North on Feb. 1 at 6 p.m. The Panthers’ last game against Lawrence North was on Dec. 8, where they won with a score of 56-45.
