Transferring from a small school with 1,500 students to a school with roughly 4,000 students can present many challenges including sports. Junior, Scarlet Friend had to face this challenge as she transferred from Franklin Community High School.
Friend has been swimming for nine years and her passion started when she was in second grade.
“When I was in second grade I just wanted to swim and I thought it was pretty cool and I made a bunch of friends through swimming and I just loved being in a pool,” Friend said.
There were mixed feelings transferring schools and at first Friend was not delighted about the move but over time she has become accustomed to such a big school and a new swim team.
“It was a big change and it kind of sucked because I loved my coach at Franklin and the team atmosphere was great but now I have learned how to fit in with this team and my new coach and his style,” Friend said.
Not only is the swim team gaining a new swimmer, they are gaining a record setting swimmer as Friend set a conference record as well as the record for the school.
“It was awesome because I remember all of my teammates knew that I wanted to do that (Set a record),” Friend said. “I remember finishing and every one standing there cheering for me which was really cool.”
Friend will look to improve her work ethic and bring future success to the swim team with continuous practice and dedication.
