Junior Class Council hosts a successful prom

Prom is an event for all juniors, and students from other grades if invited by a junior. Students from other schools may also attend prom if they were invited by a junior from NC and submitted a guest request form.

The prom theme this year was Midnight Under the Stars. Junior Class Council narrowed down options for the theme and the whole juniors class was able to vote on the final theme. The prom theme mostly determines what kind of decorations are set out, but people can also match their clothes to the theme.

Prom started at 8 p.m. and ended at 11 p.m.

In the past, prom has been at the Old National Center in the Egyptian Room. This year, prom was at the Regions Tower, a rooftop venue with indoor and outdoor space.

Inside was the DJ, dance floor, photo rooms, food, drinks and seating. Outside there were fire pits, heaters, lights and lots of different types of seating to hangout around the fire pits.

“I loved the venue and I think it worked really well for prom,” Junior Class Secretary Harper Moses said.

History teacher Darrien Grays and lead members of Junior Class Council Harper Moses, Tobin Montgomery, Dexter Parker and Jendayi Gyamerah-Oliver organized the venue, food, music and other planning involved in prom.

The lead students in Junior Class Council got to attend last year’s prom as well so they knew how to prepare for this year.

“I think prom definitely exceeded my expectations, especially compared to last year’s prom,” Moses said, “I think everything went really well and I was really happy about the results.”

Final Prom Court nominees for queen were Gabby Stevens, Madison Jackson, Kefyrah Kerns and Alexis Sammy. Nominees for King were Chayse Jacks, Jahnu Hutte, Elijah Brit and Camden Rhoades.

Voting for official prom king and queen took place at prom. There were QR codes set around that people could scan to vote.

“My favorite part about Prom was announcing the prom court winners,” Moses said.

Prom Queen was Gabby Stevens and Prom King was Camden Rhoades.

All in all, Saturday can be considered a successful night.
