Senior Sahara Caruthers just finished her job dancing for the Indiana Fever WNBA basketball team. Her job started in early July and ended in mid-Sept. Becoming a Fever dancer requires a three hour audition process, an interview with the head coach of the dance team Michelle Dugan and a reference sheet.

Over 60 people auditioned this year and only 16 people made it, including Caruthers. After making the team, practices start right away.

The dancers had rehearsals every Monday and Wednesday where they learned and cleaned dance routines for upcoming games. Dancers are required to be at every rehearsal, unless they have requested off in advance.

On game days, the dancers arrived two hours early to prepare. Aside from performing, the dancers interact with fans, hand out shirts and do press interviews.

Caruthers appreciates her time on the team.

“It was a great learning experience. I met and made many new friends and would 100% do it again,” Caruthers said.

“Getting to dance for the WNBA was life-changing. I’m so grateful that I got the opportunity to work and dance with all these amazing people. All dancers should try out for the experience because even if you don’t make it, it definitely prepares you for the real world,” Caruthers said.
