Women’s sports deserve more recognition

Women’s sports make up about 40 percent of all sports. Over time, women have received more and more attention, like after passing laws such as Title IX that prohibited sexism in sports.

Men’s sports still get more recognition and public attention than women’s sports do. If a random person were asked to name any WNBA player or coach, they probably would not be able to. If they were asked to name any NBA player or coach, they could more likely name one and give an opinion or know facts about them.

More people should watch women’s sports because they are just as entertaining. This year, the women’s World Cup got much more recognition and viewers because of its advertising. There were commercials and social media promotions that got people talking leading up to the game.

If women’s sports were always advertised the way they were for the World Cup, then they might get more attention.

I think the best women’s sport to watch and keep up with is college basketball. They have a March Madness tournament like men’s college basketball does, which makes it fun to keep up with a bracket. Although women’s basketball can be a little slower paced, I still think it’s entertaining.
