There has been lots of debate surrounding an alleged senior skip day. What day should it be? Should it be punished? Should we even do it?
With lots of new leadership in the administrative staff more, questions keep arising. Seniors are unsure of what traditions will be allowed and which will have consequences. However, I believe that we should be allowed to participate in this tradition.
Senior skip day is a popular event for high schoolers all over the country. Students might gather for a party, travel to an amusement park or whatever else they want to do with their time.
No matter what students choose to do on senior skip day, as long as it does not interfere with or harm the school, I do not think any punishment is necessary.
Considering that this year’s seniors missed many freshman year traditions such as PantherQuest, they should be allowed to participate in any events that may help memorialize their high school career.
As many seniors are finishing their high school career with stressful AP tests, applying to scholarships and saving up money for college, senior skip day gives them the chance to appreciate their four years of hard work.
In addition, senior skip day is one of the last chances for the senior class to get together in a casual setting. While I do appreciate the senior luncheon, grad dance and actual graduation, they can be very intense with dressing up and the formal expectations. Seniors will have the change to host a final, casual get together before they all go their separate ways at college.
