The boys basketball season kicked off and so far the Panthers look strong.
Last season the Panthers went 14-12 and won the Marion county tournament. The top six scorers from the 2024-2025 season are not back for this season, leaving a lot of spots the team needs to fill.
“Filling the roles we lost will be a challenge at first, but we will do it as a team and have our teammates’ backs,We work hard day in and day out to overcome things like this. We are going to play hard and make teams beat us, we won’t beat ourselves,” junior Vashon Williams said.
This Panthers squad is a very young team. With only three seniors on the roster, the opportunity for younger players has never been greater.
“Our team is going to stand out. We have a young roster, but we are ready to make a statement,” sophomore point guard Brennen Johnson said.
The team does not have much experience playing together as a whole due to the team’s youth. The seniors have stepped up to lead the team.
“The seniors are leaders. They are good players but they know how to lead the team. It’s important we have them, especially because of how many guys we lost and our team’s youth,” Johnson said.
Expectations are all over the place for the Panthers but the team has confidence and is prepared to show people what they can do.
“We’re ready to prove everyone wrong, people are doubting us because a lot of players transferred,” WIlliams said.
The team is prepared to work hard, using practices as a tool to strengthen both their camaraderie and skill.
“Everyone is going to give it their all. We will give 100% everyday. Our team is going to out hustle whoever we are playing against.Having that culture is a big strength for us,” Johnson said.
Players value supporting their teammates, helping boost the overall moral of the team.
“I try to encourage my teammates and give good vibes. When one guy messes up we will pick them up and have their back,” Williams said.
The boys basketball program is one of the top programs in the state historically. Last season the team won the country tournament and they want to do it again this year.
“We want to win county again this year, and win the sectional championship. We want to win as many games as possible this season and represent North Central well,” Williams said.
