On Jan. 15 girls and boys swimming traveled to Center Grove High School for one of the last dual meets of the year. The girls won with a score 116-71 and boys took a loss of 124-41. The girls won eight out of 11 of the events.
“I think the team swam well, but coming off winter training we were all a little bit tired and sore,” senior Delaney Isakson said.
Winners include the sophomore Emma Horton in the 200 yard freestyle, sophomore Alani Hightower in the 100 yard butterfly, freshman Eleanor Reno in the 500 yard freestyle, junior Meggie McPherson in the 100 yard freestyle, junior Grace Lough in the 100 yard breaststroke.
As for relays, the girls won all three relays (200 yard medley relay, 200 yard freestyle relay and 400 yard freestyle relay). The medley relay included junior Sally Jones, Lough, McPherson and junior Claudia Buddenbaum. The 200 yard freestyle relay included Lough, senior Ashley Glesing, Buddenbaum and Hightower. And the 400 yard freestyle relay was Hightower, Jones, Isakson and McPherson.
A highlight for the girls was freshman Reno winning her first individual event and going a best time. The team energy was at a high after Reno out touched a Center Grove trojan.
As for the boys team, they came close to a first place finish in the 200 yard individual medley with senior Peter LaBarge placing second.
The girls have one more regular season dual meet Jan. 19 which is also senior day against Fort Wayne Homestead. Coming up on Jan. 22, the boys team only will swim in their last dual meet of the season against Lawrence North High School at NC.
The team will them go into another week of training before entering championship season.
“I’m looking forward to swimming in larger competitions and see all my hard work pay off,” Isakson said.
