Before covid, lockers were a necessity for students at NC. Now, using them is almost unheard of.

“It was rare, but I did know a couple people that didn’t use their locker,” North Central alum Nick Winings said.

Many people used their locker to help with organization, however, some students feel that they don’t need a locker to be organized.

“I stay pretty organized and I just carry a backpack around,” junior Chase Maple said.

With short passing periods, most students feel like lockers are unnecessary.

“I feel like it is just a waste of time to have to stop at your locker and get stuff that you need and possibly be late to class,” Maple said.

Many people feel that carrying a backpack is just easier in general.

“I feel like it is more convenient and I can have everything I need at all times,” Maple said.

Many people would say they agree with this statement, even people who used lockers.

“I couldn’t go to my locker between every period because if I was too far away from it, I wouldn’t have much time,” Winings said.

Using a locker also requires people to plan out their schedule and to stay more organized.

Some people claim that they didn’t use a locker to stay organized as others may think.

“It was more of a social thing. So I used it for both. I use it for social and for organization,” Winings said.

Many times using a locker wouldn’t help students stay organized, it would make it worse.

“My locker would get messy but my bag would also get messy, yeah, organization was a hard task,” Winings said.

Winings son is a student here at North Central and does not use a locker. It seems to not bother him at all.

“No, I thought it was weird when I asked if he used his locker and he said no,” Winings said.

Sometimes students in the past who used a locker would also carry around a backpack to help them carry the things they need.

“I did both, I carried around a bag that had a long strap on it that went over my shoulder and then I would go to the locker as much as possible but only depending on where my classes were and stuff, But definitely went to my locker as much as possible, but depending on where classes were and stuff. I definitely went to my locker a couple times a day,” Winings said.

Overall, many students don’t use a locker because they feel it is a waste of time and can make them feel unorganized with their classes.
