Many students wake up early for school, get through all of their classes then as soon as that is over they have to begin their shift at work.
Going to school and having a job can be very difficult to balance but it is the reality of so many.
It can be time consuming, which would limit time for schoolwork.
“Having a job can take up a lot of time, which makes it harder to do homework and spend time at home and get the rest you need.” freshman Adelaide McNeilly said.
Working after school can be very draining for students. It can take away from their social lives and decrease the amount of rest they get.
For students, hanging out with friends and spending time with their community is very good for mental and emotional health.
This aggravating schedule can be too much for many but it can also be a very positive thing. Students can create income for themselves at a young age, setting themselves up for the life to come.
It shows maturity, and shows that a student can juggle many things at once. Jobs are also a great way to learn different life skills for the future.
“I think it’s good to have a job because it offers good experience for later social experiences and just experience overall,” junior Phoenix Jones said.
Adults also tend to see the more positive sides of having a part time job.
“I think if a student doesn’t have much extra-curricular activities at school, then a part time job could help instill some habits that sports and extra-curricular activities bring to students.” Admin Kevin Gant said.
Jobs can teach teens life lessons and prepare them for the real world however, they can also take lots of free time. It’s all about balance and finding the time to do it all.
