Fashion trends have changed a lot throughout the years. The fashion scene has seen things such as bootcut jeans and shoulder pads, all the way to baggy sweatpants and ripped designer clothes.
As different trends change throughout time, young people tend to get involved in them, creating new styles made from mixtures of old and new ones.
According to multiple students, the vast majority of high schoolers prioritize their comfort rather than style when it comes to picking clothes to wear.
“I basically only wear sweats, hoodies, and slides. They’re easy to wear and always comfortable,” sophomore Brennan Johnson said.
Lots of students say that they prefer to stay comfortable throughout their school day rather than wearing clothes that may better represent their personal styles.
“I just usually wear sweatpants every day because they’re comfortable. I’ve tried to wear jeans and stuff like that before but I just don’t really like it,” freshman Theo Miller said.
Although many students wear a lot of the same type of comfortable clothing, there are lots of other students who like to stick out by having their own style.
“I like to wear things like jeans with gems in them, graphic t-shirts, and things like that. I feel like a lot of people just follow the leader when it comes to fashion trends but I like to stick out and dress how I want to,” sophomore Aubrey Hill said.
Most adults, especially teachers and parents, claim to have noticed many drastic changes in fashion throughout the years due to constantly being surrounded by new, shifting styles.
“What is fashionable right now is baggy clothes again. It used to be things like skinny jeans and tight shirts. Even my 13 year old daughter has been in my closet lately because she just wants to wear things that are baggy,” Jagga Rent said.
Even students who have been involved in different clothes trends for multiple years think that the fashion scene is constantly evolving.
“Vintage, baggy clothes came back and it’s the new big thing,” Hill said. “I’ve been seeing a lot of that type of style lately.”
Although it may seem like a disaster to some, many believe that changes in popular trends are a good thing.
“I think it is true that everything repeats itself,” Rent said. “Typically what happens is that people will get tired of baggy, and then they’re going to wear tight things again. The only option after you get tired of something is to go back to what it used to be.”
The changes in fashion have not just been isolated to streetwear. Sports uniforms have been equally as affected by ever changing trends.
“Things have changed a lot even in sports. The big, baggy basketball shoes turned into shorter and tighter ones. I would imagine that very soon some schools will come out with baggy jerseys, and it’ll take off again,” Rent said.
