Wicked has become popular over the past year, with the musical adapting to a movie. Many students at North Central have mixed feelings about the movie.
The second part of the movie “Wicked: For Good” came out Nov. 21, which will continue the story of Elphaba and Glinda, as Elphaba gets demonized as the Wicked Witch of the West.
Many people really enjoyed the movie adaptation as well as the musical.
“I love all the songs in it and I think it’s just such a fun show and it’s so meaningful,” sophomore Ian Miller said.
The musical has many songs that are very upbeat and fun to sing-along with.
“I enjoyed all the songs and I sing to them a lot,” freshman Charli Roberson said.
The actors of the movie played a big part in the opinions of students.
“I think Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba were perfectly cast and I can’t imagine anybody else doing it,” Miller said.
The musical has many messages and deeper meanings in it that make it inspiring to others and powerful.
“I think the message of Wicked is all about trying to get people to see that our differences aren’t really differences, but things that make us special,” Miller said.
The movie shows Elphaba’s green skin, making her different from everyone else and how everyone treats her as weaker than everyone else, but those differences actually made her stronger with her magic abilities.
“One message that means so much to me would probably be embracing your true self,” sophomore Demaraen Bradley said.
Students hope to see certain things in the second movie.
“I heard there’s new original songs they made for this movie and I’m quite excited about that,” Miller said.
Some students have different opinions on the musical.
“I think it’s way too overrated, I like the songs but I don’t like the rest of it,” freshman Lauren Alkire said.
While some like the songs, others have different opinions on them.
“It’s three hours of horrible songs and it’s too long, I fell asleep,” sophomore Josie Klein said.
Many students enjoyed the movie while others did not.
