North Central’s new school year brought in many new teachers, one of them being Principles of Biomedical Science teacher, Brandon Denning. Although it is his first year at NC, he has taught at two other schools previously. Despite this, Denning points out that NC is much different than the schools he was at before.
¨It is way, way bigger and I think there is a lot more school spirit here than I’ve had in the past, so it’s been a great change,¨ Denning said
Denning has already developed a strong foundation at the school. He loves the school spirit and loves the things they do to promote the school.
“I think the school spirit is great,” Denning said. “Every Panther Friday, wearing the gear and everyone’s kind of into it, so it’s only getting better.”
Although it is only his first year he has already made a big impact on the school. Not only making his classes fun but also being involved in NC. Denning and his wife, who is also a teacher at the school, are starting NC’s first ever unified track team. The unified track team allows students, both with disabilities and without, to participate in track together. It is a big step for the school’s push for inclusion for all.
“My goal is to have this club grow into something that a lot of students are interested in,” senior and co-founder of NC unified track, Julia Eynon, said.
Indiana is home to many great high schools but Denning said his choice to come here was clear.
“I always wanted to be a part of a big school, and also my wife works here in the math department so, for me, as a natural fit,“ Denning said
Denning says he wants to continue to implement and grow the efforts that school is already putting in place, stressing the importance of students being in class and school spirit.
“I feel like the things that I would want to improve are already kind of being worked on, so just making sure that kids are getting to class on time and then cell phones aren’t becoming a big distraction,” Denning said.
