For many, Christmas is one of the most special times of the year, with many students spending Christmas with their families and friends.
There are many different Christmas traditions that vary from family to family. One tradition is setting up the Christmas tree. There is some controversy around when to do this.
“I put my tree up right after Thanksgiving, maybe a few days after,” sophomore Zeke Frank said.
Many NCHS students start their Christmas celebrations right after Thanksgiving.
“I put my decorations up the day after Thanksgiving because I like to have a longer Christmas celebration,” freshman Lillie Aasen said.
For some students it is a topic of discussion about when it is too early to start the celebration.
“I don’t think that it’s weird to put a Christmas tree up before Thanksgiving,” Frank said.
For many students, getting Christmas decorations up allows them to have fewer things to do throughout the holiday season.
“I put my Christmas decorations up right after Thanksgiving because I get lazy,” sophomore Decon Starks said.
“At my house we have a fake Christmas tree,” Batts said.
Fake Christmas trees are very popular for families as they are reusable and easy to put up and have no clean up or maintenance throughout the holidays. Making them easy choices for many families
Some families will decorate a real Christmas tree, which requires daily maintenance such as watering and cleaning. Real Christmas trees also have to be replaced every year.
A lot of students and families will spend the holidays on vacations outside of the state or country.
“I’m going to Florida to visit my family for Christmas,” Starks said.
Florida is a very popular destination for holiday vacations, especially during winter.
“We started to go to Florida five years ago. I go to see my grandparents and family we are there for around two weeks,” Frank said.
Christmas is often one of the most magical and busy times of the year. Many students will finish finals just days before the holidays begin which makes many look forward to spending time with family and friends during the holidays.
