North Central’s lacrosse season is upcoming and players are getting ready. Last season NC finished the season 11-7, putting them in 14th place in Indiana. Although this was a very impressive season freshman Evan Doughtry expects better things from the team this year.
“I think we will have a big season even though this year is a rebuilding year,.” Doughtry says.
Doughtry also has big hopes for himself in the upcoming season.
“I want to be starting varsity and leading scorer behind my brother. I am nervous though because I am only a freshman and I will play against a lot of bigger kids,” Doughtry said.
NC lacrosse’s first game is an away game at Westfield and their first home game being against Crown Point. This is expected to be a good game for NC as Crown Point went 6-8 on the season.
Although the season is in March, the team has been training. Max Lax, a preseason organization, allows high schools to create teams prior to the actual season. These teams play each other, allowing for increased comradery and time to develop together as a team.
“Max Lax helps the team work better together and help get the new kids reps,” Doughtry said.
Max Lax is also important for returning players.
“Max Lax gets our scheme right and it gets us in shape,” senior Donovan Timm said.
Timm has been playing lacrosse for eight years and has been a starter on NC’s varsity team for all four years of high school.
“My goal for the season is to make the playoffs and win first round,” Timm said. “We can do this through hard work and dedication.”
Although this is Timm’s last season with the team, he is grateful for the community it has developed for him.
“My favorite part of NC lacrosse is the team, the comradery and coach Moorehead,” Timm said.
