As winter approaches, the beginning of the 2025-26 winter sports season does, too.
The boys swimming and diving team prepares for the beginning of their season, with many of them already having started training.
Throughout the year, even when the high school season has ended, many swimmers are still involved with rigorous training year round on their club teams.
“The team does practice a lot during the off-season, once a day at least,” head coach Josh Saylor said.
The 24-25 season ended with a third place finish at sectionals with 316 points behind Franklin Central and Lawrence North. Eleven individuals advancing onto state despite having a smaller team.
This year the team includes a balanced mix of returning swimmers and new swimmers. One of whom is freshman Charlie Allen.
“I am really excited for the season. It’s supposed to be very fast paced and I am excited for that too,” Allen said.
Naturally, the team has set many goals for this upcoming season, with the main focus being on improving as a whole, and to hopefully win the championship meets.
“I think that last year our team stepped up to fill in places that were needed, but this year there is still room for improvement,” junior and captain Jack Campbell said.
Campbell has swam throughout all three years of high school.
“My mom encouraged me and my brothers to swim over the summer for our neighborhood summer swim team.I really liked it, so I continued to swim year round,” Campbell said.
The other team captain is junior Sebastian Granados, who also has swam throughout his three years at NC.
“I began swimming when I was around five years old after my dad got me into it,” Granados said.
The team however is not made up of just the swimmers, the divers also play a role in the success of the team.
Junior Jonah Jousset helps gain the team more points.
After placing eighth at sectionals last year, Jousset is ready to put in the work to help meet the team goals, along with his individual goals.
The team is looking forward to many key points in their season, including their first meets, championship meets like MIC, County, Sectionals, and for some, the most important, the boy’s High School Swimming and Diving State Championships.
As the beginning of the season approaches, the team is focused on not only achieving their goals, but also to improve individually along with as a team.
This year, the season officially begins on Nov. 10, with the first meet being Nov. 26 against Pike.
