The Major League Baseball Playoffs have begun and baseball fans across the country are on the edge of their seats. With many stars like Vladimir Guerrero Jr, Shohei Ohtani, and George Springer creating many highlight hits.
The playoffs started with 12 teams and are now down to just two teams. The Blue Jays and the Dodgers are now competing for a world series title, with a potential back to back win on the line.
Although Indiana does not have a major league baseball team, North Central students are still involved, often having specific teams they root for.
“My favorite team is the Cubs because they are one of the closest teams to Indy and their players are fun to watch,” junior Zach Miller said.
Proximity is not the only factor when choosing an MLB team to root for.
“I am rooting for the Dodgers because I want to see back to back world series championships,” sophomore Cy Street said.
If the Dodgers win it will be the first time in 25 years that a team will have won back to back world Series titles.
If the Blue Jays win, it will be the first world series title for the organization since 1993.
Although other teams are already knocked out of the play offs, fans still have pride for their team.
“I was rooting for the Mariners because they have never won a championship,” Miller said.
The playoffs are the most exciting part of the season because all the best players go head to head and anyone can win on any given day.
“I enjoy watching the MLB because I like to study the way professionals play to make myself better at the game,” Street said.
Baseball is a key aspect of American culture, offering entertainment and traditions for its fans.
“My Grandpa got me into baseball because he used to play in high school,” Miller said. “I enjoy watching the MLB because either team can win on any given day because of all the different variables that can help you win.”
