Junior Lukas Faber is a student whose creativity makes him someone you can’t help but notice. Whether playing his guitar or exploring the fashion world, he brings diverse interests that make him stand out.
“His quick-wittedness and fashion sense help him stand out,” Lukas’s brother Kaleb Faber said.
Lukas started playing guitar in the seventh grade. He was inspired by his dad and Kaleb, who attends Wabash University.
When Lukas began playing the guitar, he faced some challenges trying to learn how to play.
“The toughest aspect for me was just training my fingers to move as fast and precisely as they needed to play proficiently,” Lukas said.
He admits it took a lot of practice to get better at guitar.
“I’ve overcome it gradually through consistent practice,” Lukas said. “It’s still something I struggle with, though.”
Lukas’s dedication to his craft has proven effective in his playing style, as observed by his friend Owen Worden, a Junior who attends Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory High School.
“His guitar playing style is very chill, and his skills are clean but not showy,” Worden said.
While Lukas is humble about his abilities, those close to him have watched him grow.
“It’s been cool to see how his skills have developed,” Kaleb said. “It’s inspiring to see him stick with something I watched him start and become good at.”
Kaleb’s favorite song Lukas has played is Purple Rain.
Lukas’s music is shaped by a mix of influences from family and prominent artists, including Frank Ocean, Prince, Mei Ehara, Sade and Vampire Weekend.
“They’ve influenced me by shaping the music I like and what I want to make,” Lukas said. ”Their messages, lyrics and instrumental choices have all shaped my understanding of how music can be made in many different ways.”
His first performance, a SoundCloud song that still resonates with his friends, began his journey as a creator.
“My first memory of him playing is probably when he made that Soundcloud song March Instrumental,” Worden said.
Luka’s fun and friendly personality impacts the people around him.
“I’d say what makes Lukas stand out is his positivity and friendliness to everyone,” Worden said.
Whether Lukas is playing soccer, practicing his guitar or hanging out with friends, he betters the people around him.
“I’m most proud of Lukas for how good of a person he has become,” Kaleb said.
Another interest of Lukas is fashion. It’s a way for him to express his individuality and creativity.
Inspired by his favorite artists and his brother, Lukas’s style is a mix of indie, grunge, avant-garde and business core.
“I don’t think I have a super distinct style yet, but I think my style will become more distinct with time and as I get more clothes,” Lukas said.
As Lukas looks into college, he considers majors like political science and law. However, he still wants to keep music and fashion a part of his everyday life.
“I want to keep pursuing music in the future,” Lukas said. “At least as a hobby—just because it’s fun.”
Lukas is a multi-talented person whose passion for music and fashion set him apart. Whether he’s playing his guitar or experimenting with new styles, his creativity is anything but limited.
Supported by his community, Lukas continues to inspire those around him. As he prepares for college, one thing is sure: his personality and curiosity will make his journey one of lasting impact.
