On October 27, the Panthers lost the sectional football game to Cathedral 42-2, ending a disappointing season. The Panthers final record was 0-10, making this season their second straight winless season.
There is a need for changes to be made if the Panthers want to win their first game in two years.
This was the first year with the new Panthers coach Derek Hart, and after reaching semi state with his former team at Kankakee High School, it is hard to place the blame on one specific component of the team.
“I think there were a lot of problems with the team, but the offensive line was the biggest problem,” sophomore DeMare’a Robinson said, “But I think one positive thing about the season was our skill players.”
Without an offensive line that can buy time for the skill players to get open, it is hard for the quarterback to get the ball to his playmakers which largely reduces a teams chance of winning. This could very well be a reason for why the Panthers were not successful this season.
Players did find some positives to take away from the season even though it did not carry out the way anybody wanted it to.
“I think a big positive from this season was that we are all part of a brotherhood and we will all be brothers for the rest of our lives no matter where we go,” senior George Bloomingbird said.
This idea of a brotherhood is important for a team and its chemistry. Even though some teammates are leaving, the chemistry can be passed down to the underclassmen to help drive the team to success in the future.
Over the offseason, players will be hard at work to make sure that the last two seasons do not repeat. Winter workouts will be full of intensity to keep the players more motivated and ready
