On Tuesday, Apr. 24, Varsity boys basketball coach Doug Mitchell has announced his retirement. Mitchell coached at North Central for 25 years and had an overall record of 428-176. He coached two state championship winning teams (1999 and 2010) as well as four winners of the the Indiana Mr. Basketball award: Jason Gardner (1999), A.J. Ratliff (2004), Eric Gordon (2007), and Kris Wilkes (2017).

Though the team experienced their first losing record this year (7-15) since the 2000-2001 season, Coach Mitchell has helped to establish and carry on a strong winning tradition for North Central Basketball. His teams had a winning percentage greater than .700 and competed for the state title year after year. There is no doubt that this repeated winning has helped the program become one of the elite and well-known throughout the state.
