Swimming sectionals prelims begin Thursday, February 1, followed by finals on Saturday, February 3.
The ten schools competing in sectionals will be Chatard, Cathedral, Lawrence North, Beach Grove, Broad Ripple, Franklin Central, Heritage Christian, Shelbyville, Warren Central, and North Central.
The swim team will look to improve on their 8th place finish in state during the 2017 season, but individuals will first they need to win sectionals in order to advance.
Junior Laney Isakson has been swimming at North Central for 3 years. She is excited for the opportunity to succeed in sectionals and is taking many steps in order to proceed to state.
“First and foremost to prepare for sectionals, I’ve been watching what I eat and how much sleep I get. Staying consistent with my sleep and healthy diet ensure my success,” Isakson said.
Sophomore Grace Lough has been swimming for the North Central girls swim team for 2 years and is also taking many steps in order to prepare her for sectionals.
“I’m preparing my body both mentally and physically. I’m getting my head in the game and physically I’m resting and preparing my body during practice for my fast races,” Lough said.
These two North Central swimmers have high hopes for going into sectionals and are confident in their abilities to go to state.
“The swim team doesn’t have a challenging sectional with our biggest competition being LN. In my events, the 200 Free and the 500 Free I’m pretty set for the win and my harder competition will be at the state meet.” Isakson says.
Isakson believes that sectionals won’t be a problem and looks forward to the increased competition at the state level.
Lough states “My chances right now are about 75% for me to individually or as a relay to make it to state.”
Lough is going into sectionals with a confident mindset and believes in her abilities to get through to state and compete at her best.
