Girls Soccer Preview

Girls+Soccer+Preview

The girls soccer team is looking very promising this year. Led by senior captains Courtney Jones, Claire Gordon, and Katie Jane Price, the team is ready for the upcoming season. The girl’s varsity lineup has changed quite a bit since last year’s with many girls having graduated.

The 2016 girls team is made up of many new faces but many are returning to play this year. Senior Captain Katie-Jane Price is feeling optimistic about this upcoming season.

“I’m feeling really good about our upcoming season,” Price said, “We have a lot of fresh legs on the team. We need to figure out how to work together and then it will be great.”

Other team members are looking forward to having a successful season.

“I’m pretty confident in the team this year,” Destiny Brown said, “There’s such good vibes when we practice and I’m excited for our first game.”

With success and hardwork does come along with the challenges

“I think the same challenges still exists from last year: injuries. Our team usually finds themselves getting injured early on in the season so we all have to work to stay health, especially with a smaller roster than last year.”

Injuries last year really kept the girl’s team from reaching their full potential last year. Their successfulness will likely come down to if their team can stay healthy through the entirety of their season. The girl’s soccer team is not as deep as it has been in previous years, however, it still possesses the raw talent it has possessed in the past few seasons. The team has plenty of talent however. Rose Kaefer, a freshman, made varsity roster this year and will be a starter in the outside midfield position. Rose Kaefer spent time this summer along with junior Allison Harvey training with Butler Coach Ric Huffman. Senior captain Courtney Jones trained with Pedro Anderson. Junior Jasmine Carson spent this upcoming season practicing with St. Vincent sports performance.

Much of the roster played for a soccer club this spring keeping those who played ready for the fall high school season. Overall, there are many players to keep your eye on for this upcoming season. The girl’s soccer team possesses a great team with lots of raw talent, the only potential trouble that could interrupt their season this year is injuries, as their roster isn’t as deep as it has been in the past few years.
