Yesterday, the World Travelers club left for their long awaited trip to Europe. Club members brought their luggage to school and left after eighth period to catch a flight out of Chicago. Participants signed up for the trip last spring and have been looking forward to it all year.
The World Travelers Club is run by social studies department chair Chris Vermilion and history teacher James Tallman. They have led multiple successful trips with the help of chaperones and student travel companies.
This year, the club is traveling to Italy, Slovenia and Croatia. Specifically, they are staying in Venice, Bled, Ljubljana, Split and Dubrovnik.
“I am the most excited to go to Lake Bled in Slovenia and overall just to eat all the good food,” sophomore Alexa Lansberry said.
As the trip approached, World Travelers Club members packed and prepared to leave for 10 days.
“I have been slowly packing a little bit everyday so I don’t have a ton to worry about right before I leave,” Lansberry said.
On previous World Travelers club trips there have been issues with losing luggage. This year, travelers are only allowed to bring a carry-on suitcase and a backpack. So, packing ahead is not only necessary, but it has to be strategic to fit everything.
“I am having to be really strategic with what shirts and pants I am bringing so I can fit everything in my carry on,” Lansberry said.
For some members of the club, this is not their first time going outside of the country.
“I have traveled to Paris and Costa Rica, but none of the places we are traveling on the trip, “ sophomore Julia Westermeyer said.
While abroad, the World Travelers club has a packed itinerary. They have planned activities like water rafting in Croatia and glass blowing in Venice.
Looking ahead, the World Travelers club has big travel plans for next spring break as well. The club’s trip to Morocco, Spain and Portugal has been approved, so stay tuned!
