The boys varsity soccer team played Roncalli on Monday for the Panthers’ first game of the county tournament. The Panthers were eager to get their first win of the tournament as they were busy last weekend preparing for the game.
As the game approached, sophomore Ezra McAfee had a positive mindset.
“I think we are going to win because we have been putting in a lot of effort these past couple weeks,” McAfee said, “The team has been stretching a lot, lifting weights and eating healthy food. I would say we need to work on staying positive so we can play better out on the field and have fun.”
McAfee’s hope was shared by other members of the team.
“I think we are going to win the whole tournament because we are the best,” junior Beau Smith said, “To prepare for the tournament we have been practicing and stretching a lot to make sure our bodies are in the best condition to win.”
Players believe that strong communication will give them the best chances of making it far in the tournament.
“I think the team needs to communicate more so that we can stay organized and have good strategies on the field,” Smith said.
The Panthers ended up winning the game against Roncalli 5-0, giving them confidence for their next game of the tournament against Brebeuf. Players saw this as an easy win, giving them hope for the rest of the season.
