This Saturday, the Indianapolis Colts played their season premiere game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Fans were eager to see the debut of Anthony Richardson as their newest starting quarterback.
Along with Richardson, cornerback Julius Brents and offensive tackle Blake Freeland are new to the team this year. Last year, the Colts had a record of 4-12-1, so fans hope for a better record this year.
“I was glad to hear Richardson’s name in the starting rotation for this week,” senior Conner Hoster said.
Richardson attended University of Florida and holds the record for the longest rushing touchdown by a Florida quarterback of 81 yards. He also won the All-SEC Freshman Team in 2021 for his first year at Florida.
“I think the Colts are going to be alright this year. They have never had a quarterback that can run, so they have a chance at winning against a lot of teams this year,” senior Tait Pardekooper said.
Former starting quarterback Sam Ehlinger remains on the team, although he did not start this game.
“Last year was not our best season due to our coaching staff and Matt Ryan getting benched, but we’re going to come off strong this year.”
Sam Ehlinger was favored over Matt Ryan, leading to Ryan getting benched last season and leaving many fans upset. Ehlinger had never thrown a pass in a regular-season game, causing controversy over the Colts’ coaching staff.
Under new head coach Shane Steichen, fans foresee an optimistic season. Steichen was the play caller for one of the NFL’s best offenses in 2022, and has a new future for the Colts this year.
