Students discuss Senior Honor Code adjustments

Administration announced the return of Senior Honor Code on August 17. Applications are due August 31.

In the past, Senior Honor Code granted the following privileges to accepted seniors: calling themselves in for absences, parking in the SHC designated lot, leaving school for appointments and the ability to be in the halls without a pink pass from a teacher.

Changes have been made to this year’s Senior Honor Code.

“We are currently working on an all-sports pass. Other ideas that have been tossed around include a coffee bar or maybe a smoothie bar. Student Council is also working with Dr. [Danny] Mendez on other ideas to see what all we can do for seniors. The privileges will be announced sporadically once we figure out what all we can do,” class of 2024 assistant principal Reilly Harmeyer said.

Seniors have different opinions on the drastic changes.

“I want to be able to park close to the student entrance. I hate walking longer distances into school during the winter. It is cold and windy. Painting Senior Honor Code lines at the front of the student lot could help solve this problem,” senior Paxton Rowley said.

“I am so-so on this year’s Senior Honor Code changes. I want to call myself in and park at the Senior Honor Code lot. I hope they come up with some good ideas this year to make it up to us,” senior Hannah Radford said.

“I like the food truck idea, but I feel like it would only be a twice a year type of deal. They should get a snow cone stand and have it out on special occasions,” senior Maggie McHugh said.

As students speak up, they ask that their proposals will be taken into consideration. Students agree that certain modifications are necessary in order to satisfy their displeasure.

Senior Honor Code is something students have worked hard for over their several years at NC. “It is only fair for them to give us the privileges that we deserve and have worked for,” senior Colin O’Brien said.
