Cheerleader discusses beginning of basketball seasons

Junior Katie McConnell has been cheering for seven years. In years past, she cheered for Spirit Club cheer. This year is McConnell’s third season cheering at NC for football and basketball.
“My favorite part about North Central cheer is my teammates and the competitions,” McConnell said.
McConnell enjoys spending quality time with her teammates and building connections that will help her performance. On November 5, the cheer team competed at state and placed sixth in the timeout division.
“By reposting things from the student section and posting on our cheer Instagram, we can get students and staff involved in cheer,” McConnell said.
McConnell thinks it is very important for people to recognize school spirit, and hopes to get more people involved. She also believes that the school spirit at NC definitely needs some improvement.
“In February, we have an event where the boys come and stunt cheer with us on the sideline,” McConnell said.
McConnell believes events like these will get students excited about being involved.
“In these next few cheer seasons, I’m looking forward to cheering at the girls and boys basketball games,” McConnell said.
McConnell believes this year will be very exciting. The girls season has been rolling for a few weeks and the boys season kicked off last Wednesday. The teams have a couple of double headers coming up, where they play Ben Davis and Warren Central.
“I am also very excited to go to competitions and in general, just cheer on my teammates,” McConnell said.
McConnell has many goals, but overall she wants to be a good teammate and good student.
“Besides cheer, I am focusing on balancing time and making sure I do most of my work before practice since we have late practice,” McConnell said.
