For many Hoosiers, the month of August means excitement for the annual state fair.

Every year, people come to enjoy the food, games and rides, including senior Maurquis Willingham.

“I love the fair, I usually come multiple times every year,” Willingham said.

“I came with some friends this year and played a lot of games,” Willingham said, “but I will never ride the rides because that is terrifying.”

One of his favorite fair activities is people watching.

“I absolutely love to watch the different kinds of people at the fair,” Willingham said, “a lot of them are interesting since there’s so many people every time.”

The fair is always popular, but new pieces of entertainment this year drew in a larger crowd than usual.

A new trend of big tee-shirts with animals, sayings or pictures printed onto them brought long lines of people to the fair stand.

“I was so excited when I got my shirt,” junior Grace Hodson said, “It was an oversized, ironic, purple shirt with cats on it.”

Another addition to the fair were their deep-fried brownies, a new take on the classic fair staple, deep-fried Oreos.

Finally, the fair added a pickle pizza to their list of their food stand items. The pizza ended up winning first place in the “Taste of the Fair” competition among all fair concessions.

Although the fair has winded down for the year, the entertainment, food and popularity have been successful and will, of course, be back next August.
