The girls golf team wrapped up their season on September 30. They finished with a record of 8-5, making it all the way to Regionals.

“The season was very successful,” head coach Leo Hodes said. “It started out slowly, but there was lots of improvement during the season.”

The team placed fifth at the Marion County tournament, playing on their own home course at Coffin Golf Course.

“Looking back at the season, I wished that we did better at county,” Hodes said. “I was hoping for a top 3 finish.”

The team placed third out of 10 teams in sectionals, successfully advancing to regionals.

“Getting out of sectionals was our main accomplishment this year,” Hodes said.

In regionals, the girls golf team earned a 10th place finish out of 18 teams. Senior Ellie Demilt attributes the regionals birth to substantial in-season improvement by the team.

“We definitely as a team improved so much over the season, which is why we made it to regionals. We focused mostly on our short game and spent hours practicing on the chipping green working on pitching skills and putting. These many hours of practice really helped our score drop,” Demilt said.

The team is losing three seniors: Camilla Ullom, Ellie Demilt and Marina Morgan. Going into next season, the team will have a different look.

“The younger girls showed lots of improvement,” Hodes said. “I’m looking forward to next season. There will be lots of competition for the top five spots.”
