Junior Spectacular excites students as auditions begin
October 22, 2018
Junior Spectacular cuts are just around the corner, and the various writers are beginning to hold their tryouts. Freaky Friday, written by juniors Catherine Neuman and Bell Pastore, had their tryouts Monday, Oct. 1 and Tuesday, Oct. 2.
“The turnout at the tryouts were really good. We had about 70 people audition for our Spec,” Neuman said.
Neuman was surprised with the number of people that tried out and was pleased with the tryouts in general.
“We were happy with tryouts. They were organized and very helpful for us,” Neuman said.
Neuman and Pastore have decided the cast for the Junior Spectacular cuts scenes but not the full cast. The leads for Freaky Friday are junior Jackie Gundaker and junior Ali Curlin.
“The Spec follows a Carmel athlete and a NC Counterpoint that switch places, which is why it’s called Freaky Friday,” Neuman said.
Junior Carter Bailey is a member of the Junior Spectacular and was impressed with the organization of the tryouts.
“The tryouts were well-thought-out and the idea of creating skits was really clever,” Bailey said, “the skits were really funny so it made the atmosphere felt laid back.”
Freaky Friday is not the only Junior Spectacular that has held tryouts, others had tryouts. Surf’s Up, written by juniors Raul Lazo, Scott Hoeg and Phoebe Aaron, had tryouts on Oct. 15 and Oct. 16. Stay Woke, written by Kevin Farrell, Coco Bloomer, and Paige Babb, had tryouts on Oct. 16 and Oct. 18.
