The boys soccer team will look to bounce back from a three game losing streak as they host the Great Midwest Classic on Friday, Sept. 7 and Saturday, Sept. 8.
The team lost 3-0 against Center Grove on Aug. 30 and lost 1-0 against Hinsdale Central from Illinois on Sept. 1. Their third loss in a row came against Lawrence Central, where the squad lost 3-1 on Tuesday, Sept. 4.
This weekend’s matchups will come against three out-of-state teams in De La Salle Collegiate from Michigan, Oak Park-River Forest from Illinois and Highland Park from Illinois.
“I expect the competition to be very high. The teams will be physical and the games will be fast-paced,” junior midfielder Zion Andoh said.
Andoh is disappointed with his team’s performance in their last few games. He hopes they will be able to redeem themselves with a solid outing this weekend.
“We need to work harder as a team on both offense and defense. If we can maintain high pressure and create chances to score, we will be able to win,” Andoh said.
Andoh is convinced his team as a whole will be able to improve on their recent poor matches. He also thinks there is room for personal development.
“I need to improve my movement off the ball and my pressure on defense. Also, I have to get more crosses into the box to create goal scoring opportunities,” Andoh said.
The boys soccer team has been a powerhouse within the state over the past two seasons and expects to improve significantly before the state tournament rolls around. The Great Midwest Classic will hopefully be the first step in the right direction.
