Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Grease and flour 2 (8-inch) cake pans.
Melt chocolate in top of double boiler over low heat; cool.
Beat together butter and sugar.
Add eggs, vanilla, chocolate and baking powder. Mix well.
Add milk and flour alternately in ½ cup quantities.
Pour into prepared cake pans.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes.
Remove from pans and cool on rack.

Add egg, lemon juice, vanilla and chocolate.
Spread icing between layers, then on sides and top of cake.

½ cup (1 stick) butter, softened
1 pound ( 3 ½ cups) confectioners’ sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
½ teaspoon vanilla
