On Saturday, March 25, the track and field team participated in the Indiana Indoor Track State Competition. The competition was held at the Gladstein Fieldhouse in Bloomington Indiana. Though not seeded extremely high prior to this competition, track still did achieve some success in the event.
In the boys 3200 Meters event, John Hodges set a personal record with a time of 9:25.84 while coming in sixth place. In the girls 4×200 meter relay, they received seventh place with a time of 1:46.15.
The panthers had some success in both the boys and girls 4×400 meter relays: the boys got third place with a time of 3:24.41 while the girls got seventh place with a time of 4:06.92. Finally, the boys distance medley relay team came in fourth place with a time of 10:36.07.
This meet brought an end to the indoor 2017 season, so the rest of the meets will be outdoors. This may be a positive thing for the panthers as NC does not have an indoor track facility and therefore are more acclimated to competing in the elements. Overall, the schools who have access to an indoor track training facility tend to have more success in the indoor events.
The panthers opened their outdoor season with a win in their first meet of the year at home. This is a great start for the panthers as they are hoping to carry this early success into the rest of the year.
