The process of getting a license makes young drivers nervous about what will happen once they have that freedom.
Driver’s Education often takes months to complete due to the long courses it requires. Some young people find it especially difficult to find time to complete the courses due to extracurricular activities they are involved in.
For most people, the driver’s education course is more complex than the actual driving.
“I thought the driving part was easy; it was the class that gave me a hard time.” sophomore Chace Maple said.
When young people drive, most are scared at first, but as they get more used to the roads, their nerves slowly calm.
However, not every student fears driving.
“No, I have been looking forward to driving since I was young,” sophomore Chace Maple said.
Chase is not the only one. Other young drivers feel the same way about driving.
“I am excited to drive because it gives me more freedom,” sophomore Tagg Carlyle said.
These young drivers all agreed that driving brought them more excitement rather than nervousness. They also all shared a common ground regarding feeling more free behind the wheel.
“It gives me more freedom and more control of the car,” sophomore Rose Strabala said.
Driving is a unique experience for people who are not experienced.
“It was different from any other activity I have done before,” sophomore Tagg Carlyle said.
It is important for any driver, but especially beginners, to stay concentrated on the road. This often helps young drivers learn the roads without using a GPS, which makes their lives easier.
Another rule students dislike is the three-month rule, stating that new drivers cannot drive anyone other than their family for the first three months after they get their license.
“I dislike this rule,” sophomore Chance Maple said. “I wish I could drive my friends everywhere.”
Although new drivers like the freedom of driving, they often feel trapped by their parents when driving with them.
“The backseat driving is annoying, and I feel like a baby when they keep telling me what to do repeatedly,” sophomore Rose Strabala said.
Drivers enjoy the driving experience, but outside factors such as driver education, state laws, and overprotective parents do hinder their time in the car. However, they still push through the setbacks and gain experience in the car.
