Bob Marley was a beloved Jamaican singer, guitarist and songwriter in the mid to late 20th century. He is considered one of the pioneers of his genre of music, reggae.
He has 11 children, many of which carry on his musical legacy. One of his grandchildren, YG Marley, recently released a song called “Praise Jah In The Moonlight.”
The song received lots of support after YG Marley performed it during his mother Lauryn Hill’s concert. Since the song was released, many people have given it good reviews.
“I love the song because I love the beat and the way that he sings it,” junior Melanna Filis said.
Other people were disappointed by the song’s release.
“I do not like the song because I do not like that style of music,” junior Stella Taylor said.
YG Marley’s song follows the style of much of Bob Marley’s music. Therefore, people who like Bob Marley’s music tend to also like “Praise Jah In The Moonlight.”
“I love listening to music by Bob Marley because it reminds me of summer,” Filis said.
On the other hand, people who do not like Bob Marley’s music are also less likely to like music by YG Marley.
“I also do not like music by Bob Marley because I do not like that style of music,” Taylor said.
At only 22-years-old, YG Marley is just beginning his career as a musician. Following the success of his grandfather, there seems to be lots of potential for YG Marley in the music industry.
“I think YG Marley has the potential to be very successful if he continues to make music of the same style as Bob Marley because some people really like that style of music and the fact he is a legacy,” Taylor said.
There are rumors of YG Marley possibly making covers of some of Bob Marley’s famous songs, so everyone will have to wait and see what YG Marley will do next.
