Many juniors and seniors have started thinking about their post-high school plans. Students who plan on attending college often want to visit their options in order to ensure they make the best choice for their futures.
Students receive two excused college visit days for junior year and two more for senior year. As some students want to visit more than two colleges per year, they visit on other days, which end up being fall break for many.
Junior Landon Haffner visited Purdue University over his fall break.
“I definitely liked Purdue, specifically the campus. I think I would really like to go there,” Haffner said.
Commonly, students visit siblings or friends that attend a university.
“My favorite part of visiting Purdue was seeing my college friends that go there. It was nice being familiar with some of the students,” Haffner said.
Students’ interests have a large impact on their decisions since certain schools are stronger in specific areas.
“As of right now, I want to study finance and I think Purdue would be a good fit for that,” Haffner said.
It is important to visit multiple colleges in order to compare which one students prefer the most.
“I plan on visiting Michigan and Notre Dame as well,” Haffner said.
Although students may visit many different schools, frequently, there is one specific school they prefer.
“I still would like to attend Purdue the most,” Haffner said.
In-state schools also tend to have lower tuition rates which may impact students’ choices as well.
For seniors, it is the time of year for college applications and essay writing. There are many different factors for students to consider when deciding on the college that best fits them, but by visiting various schools and doing research, every student will hopefully be able to make a good decision for themselves.
