Seniors recently voted on their Senior Class Council representatives in homeroom. Juniors were unable to vote on their representatives in homeroom because not enough people applied to be part of the council.
“18 juniors applied to be on the council. There are supposed to be 20 representatives,” junior class secretary Harper Moses said.
The deadline for Junior Class Council applications was extended a week to allow more students to sign up.
Any student can apply to be a class council officer or representative. The positions for class council officers are President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
Elections for class council officers took place last spring.
Many students join class council to get involved in school, but being on class council also looks good on college applications.
“I joined class council because I wanted to try something new. I thought it would be a lot of fun and I wanted to make our junior year amazing,” Moses said.
Class council officers, with the help of representatives, plan events like prom, grad dance and fundraisers. Events like prom take lots of time and effort to plan, so preparations have already begun.
“We have already started thinking about prom. Nothing is set in stone yet, but we are brainstorming. I am really excited to plan prom and see how it all turns out,” Moses said.
One of the goals of class council is to make sure everyone’s voice is heard.
“We really want to make sure everyone’s voice is heard when it comes to the things we plan, so we have been and will continue to ask for opinions,” Moses said.
Although class council is only for upperclassmen, underclassmen can already start thinking about joining.
“I would recommend people join class council because I think it’s a great way to get involved and become more active in the school,” Moses said.
