The Marion County Tennis tournament began on Monday, Sept. 17. There are four rounds until you compete in the final round which is on Thursday, Sept. 20. It is a single elimination tournament and all the teams in the county compete.
North Central is one of the top competitors in the county, as well as Park Tudor. NC won the previous year but lost to Park Tudor two years ago. The boys tennis team beat Ben Davis 5-0 in the first round of the tournament. The next day, the team faced Southport and beat them 5-0 and advanced them to the semi-finals against Brebeuf.
The tennis team then beat Brebeuf 4-1 in the semi-finals advancing them to the finals against Park Tudor. The top seven line up has been changed this whole tournament. Ian Brady, Brian McAuley, Nathan Branaman, Josh Gerstein, Carter Bailey, Ajay Mahenthiran, Mace Shoults, Max Simmel, Will Garrard, Jonathon Henry, Roy McDowell and Richie Smikle all played top seven in the tournament to help them advance.
Boy’s tennis has beaten all the teams in the county in the regular season. The boy’s tennis team and their success has rewarded them as the Marion County champions. They beat Park Tudor 5-0, which gave them a huge amount of confidence for the start of the state finals. Sectionals start Wednesday, Sept. 26th at home, so come support your Thers’.
