With the fall season approaching, so is the fall musical, and this year, the NC theatre is putting on the production of Freaky Friday.
Freak Friday is about a mother and daughter who swap bodies, and forces them to live in each other’s lives.
One lead in the musical is senior SJ Hobley, who will play Katherine Blake, the mother of Ellie Blake.
Many of the actors and actresses are anticipating the upcoming production.
“I was really excited, I’ve been doing the musicals all four years and it was just a big deal because I’ve never gotten a lead before,” Hobley said.
Hobley began acting during her years at Northview.
“I’ve always really liked to sing and I’ve been doing musicals since middle school at Northview. My mom also made me do it and I actually ended up really loving it and had so much fun,” Hobley said.
Through her love of acting, she naturally made her way into the theater program at NC.
“I really love the theater community at North Central, I’m also in show choir and a lot of my friends who are in counterpoints and descants are also in the musical, and it’s just like very supportive and everyone are just really great people, and it’s never boring to be around them,” Hobley said.
The other lead in the musical is junior Sylvi Phillips, who will play Ellie Blake, the daughter of Katherine Blake.
“I have been dancing since I was little, and in middle school there was a dance role in one of the musicals, so I decided to audition. Ever since then I’ve been pretty involved,” Phillips said.
The rehearsal process for the musical is very intricate, but also very fun.
“So much goes into the rehearsal process, we have choreographers who come in and choreograph the whole show, we have an entire set being built, we have to block everything, we have to teach all of the music, and then we have to review,” Theatre teacher, and director of the musical Carrie Reiburg said.
The show will display some of NCs best actors and actresses, along with many members of the NC choirs.
“I am really excited for the musical, I love freaky friday and have been waiting for the musical.” Sophomore Maddie Santarossa said.
The first production of the musical will be Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. In the Birge Auditorium.
The musical is a highly anticipated production within both the theatre community and the school as a whole, and takes a lot of time and preparation to be able to produce for family and friends intending to watch.
