Fall break begins this Friday, marking the end of the first quarter. Students and teachers alike are excited to be away from school and with a week off, there are many ways people plan on spending fall break.
Many view fall break as their first chance to get away from the stresses of everyday life, which is why traveling is so popular during this week off.
“I am going to Florida with my friend’s family,” junior McKenzi Rutland said. “We are going to the beach and are going to reconnect with some old friends. I like traveling for break because it’s nice to have a break after the first quarter of school.”
While some students are using fall break for a peaceful vacation at the beach, junior Rickareay Holland is planning to do the opposite.
“I’m going to New York City with my family to shop and sightsee. We are going to the Statue of Liberty which is going to be pretty cool,” Holland said.
Other students, like junior Moira Mackintosh, are traveling outside of the country.
“We are going to England to visit family. My Dad’s British. I am excited to hike, me and my family do that a lot on vacation. My Nan makes a sponge cake that I like a lot,” Mackintosh said.
Though many students do travel over fall break, many others stay home. Senior Aiko Walls and junior Rose Strabala plan to use this time to practice their instrument and sport, respectively.
“I will be practicing my music for the Freaky Friday pit orchestra. I play piano and I have to practice it a lot,” Wells said.
“I am staying home because I have volleyball. I am going to use this time to practice and we also have a game so I am staying here,” Strabala said.
A week without school is the perfect opportunity to focus on practicing a sport or another extracurricular.
College visits are very popular for students during fall break. With a week off, there is plenty of time for one to travel around the state and country visiting different universities.
“Other than chilling I am visiting colleges during break. I am going to visit Purdue and Xavier University,” senior David Buening said.
For many others, fall break is simply a time in which one can sit back and relax at home. Whether it’s with friends, family, or just by yourself, a staycation is never a bad option.
“I plan on just chilling at the crib. I am going to play a lot of Rainbow Six Siege and hangout with my friends,” senior Andrew Magana said.
“I am just going to hangout with my family at my house. I am also going to play videogames. I really like Fortnite,” freshman Elliot Wahl said.
Spanish teacher Julia Dobie plans on staying home for break as well. But her staycation will not be spent relaxing.
“I am going to use this time to get head on lessons for the upcoming quarter. We are using a new book this year and I need to get ahead on lesson planning and assignments. I hope to get to the gym a little and maybe work on the house a little bit,” Dobie said.
Students and teachers plan on spending fall break in many different ways. All of which provide a much needed break, whether that be relaxing or eventful, from the everyday stressors of school.
