Many trends have had a strong influence in the beginning of this school year, some of which stand out more than others.
“I collect action figures. I like to find rare ones,” Sophomore Matthew Wattley said.
Action figures are becoming more popular among students, some of which cost hundreds of dollars.
“Some of the action figures I collect are superheroes or characters that I like,” Wattley said. There are many popular animated fictional characters from TV shows, movies and books.
For many students clothing and fashion are becoming more popular to collect. Some desirable clothing brands have begun purposely having limited stock to create more rarity.
“I also like to collect clothes such as a Grailed which is like an out of production clothing piece,” Wattley said.
There are many examples of rare clothing, especially street wear becoming more desirable.
“I display a lot of my Grailed and I wear them sometimes,” Wattley said. Many of these exclusive clothing pieces standout and have unique characteristics.
“I want stuff because other people recognize it and it makes me stand out and be different,” Wattley said.
One of the largest trendy collectibles is the Labubu, it is a small fluffy fantasy creature with many different styles and accessories.
“I got my Labubu because I am a trend hopper. I hopped on the bandwagon,” Sophomore Emmitt Jones said.
Many students are influenced by others to get one of these collectibles such as the Labubu.
“I got it because I liked how it looked and how it is fluffy,” Sophomore JaKhi Chambers said.
The appealing look of the Labubu entices many to purchase one.
“I paid $50 for my Labubu,” Chambers said.
Labubus have very ranging prices most are $20 to $300 but some special editions can be over $1,000.
“I paid $15 for my Labubu. I think that it is fake,” Jones said.
Due to the high price for a Labubu there is a large counterfeit market leading for many fake Labubu to be in circulation.
Labubu’s have no designed purpose beyond collecting.
“I used my Labubu for decoration and put it in my room,” Chamber said.
Other ways students display their Labubu is hanging them off their pants.
There is some negative feedback on people owning Labubus and regretting their purchase.
“I regret buying it because it is ugly and I wasted my money,” Jones said.
Many people have different opinions on these collectibles but over the school year they have had a lasting impact.
