The person behind the mask is someone who brings great school spirit and helps bring the students together.
For our school mascot, it is about giving back to the community.
“I love interacting with the kids and the youth because it makes me feel good about giving back to the community,” the Panther said. “I feel like I impact [the school spirit] very positively and help bring the mood up because people love the panther.”
A large part of being a mascot is being anonymous.
“I would rather it be anonymous for the spirit of the panther,” the Panther said.
Many kids feel like the Panther is a big part of students coming together at football games.
“I feel like the mascot really helps bring the students together and helps get them excited for sporting games,” senior Zion Murphy said.
Being The Panther can be extremely tiring, interacting with the kids can be exhausting.
A good routine can help them stay energized and awake.
“After school I typically get some food, usually Chipotle. It helps me gain energy for the game so I can help hype the crowd up,” the Panther said. “ Usually after I get food, I’ll go home and either hangout or take a nap.”
While being the mascot can be tiring and exhausting, it also comes with many fun and memorable moments.
“My most memorable moment was when I went down and cheered with the cheerleaders,” the Panther said.
While being the Panther can be fun and memorable, it can be a little nerve racking possibly getting your identity revealed.
“I don’t usually feel nervous but I’d rather it be anonymous for the spirit of the Panther,” the Panther said.
Being the Panther as you can see can take a lot out of you, but you also need to have good school spirit and good energy.
The person who is the current panther feels they fit the job perfectly.
“I feel like I have the most school spirit and I’m him,” the Panther said.
The school having a mascot that gets kids excited for events definitely helps the students feel like they aren’t the only ones that care.
“Having a mascot shows me that the school cares about bringing the students together and having someone that can hype the students up,” Murphy said.
I think the school definitely benefits from having a mascot because it brings in the little kids that love the Panther.
“I think a lot of people love the panther,” Murphy said.
