This past year North Central has hired a new weights coach, Conor Andras. Andras, or coach A, says he is very excited about being back in Indiana and is excited to help North Central grow.
Andras grew up in Crownpoint, Indiana where he excelled at football. Andras went on to play football at Butler University where he played linebacker and long snapper.
After playing college football Andras decided he wanted to remain in the sports field, leading him to join many college strength and conditioning programs around the country. Some include LSU, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and UIndy.
There, Andras helped many Division 1 football players achieve their goals. He worked with many great players like Ja’Marr Chase and Malik Nabers, who are both now in the NFL.
Andras got into strength training because of his high school strength coach.
“He was a big influence in my life. He helped me push myself to be better,” Andras said.
Andras now is a big influence in many peoples lives here at North Central just like his strength coach was to him.
“I love the new weights coach because he is very caring and he wants us to be better,” sophomore Chase Grove said. “He influences me because he always pushes me to be the best version of myself.”
His new style of weight lifting differs from the previous coach.
“I like to run an Olympic based program, focused on the technique of every lift,” Andras said.
His favorite lift to teach kids is hang clean. It requires great technique and form which is why he loves it.
“My favorite lift that coach A has taught me is power clean. I like power clean because it helps me in both of the sports that I play,” junior Kole Kreinhagen said.
Even though weights class can seem daunting to many, Andras has helped kids feel welcome and included while having fun and getting stronger.
“I try [to] coach everyone the same way regardless of if they’ve done the movements or not,” Andras said.
This selfless coaching style not only ensures that everyone is lifting weights, but it also ensures that no one feels forced to be in the class. In fact, students love the class.
“I enjoy weights class because I enjoy seeing myself grow and having someone like Coach A pushing me and the people around me to be better,” said Kreinhagen.
Andras is excited about his future here and the goals he has for each sports team.
“I want to help every team at North Central compete for and win State championships,” Andras said.
