On February 14, musicians Drake and PartyNextDoor released their new album, “Some Sexy Songs 4 U.”
This new musical project, which includes 21 songs across 74 minutes, mixes modern rap and R&B in a patented Drake style.
The album marks PartyNextDoor’s first collaborative project and Drake’s third, after “Her Loss” with 21 Savage and “What a Time To Be Alive” with Future.
It is also Drake’s first full-length musical release after his “rap beef” with popular rapper Kendrick Lamar, which started in 2024 after Kendrick’s verse on the song “Like That” by Metro Boomin and Future.
The album’s release on February 14 symbolizes Valentine’s Day, and it includes songs like “Somebody Loves Me,” “Gimme a Hug,” and more.
Drake fans have shared mixed thoughts about his new project and opinions about its seemingly Valentine’s Day theme.
“I thought the album was kind of average; some songs were hits like “Nokia,” but most weren’t that good,” freshman Steven Whitten said. “I would rate it a seven out of ten.”
Many students who have listened to the project say it is not one of Drake’s best works.
“It’s definitely not his best work, but I would still rate it a solid eight out of ten,” sophomore Jonathan Johnson said. “It fit the Valentine’s theme pretty well, especially because it included some love songs.”
Although some people thought the album was average, others had positive outlooks.
“I think it was an amazing album,” sophomore Aris Holder said. “I loved it. I would rate it a ten out of ten because it met my expectations.”
Multiple hit songs were included in the project, such as “Nokia,” “Crying in Chanel,” “Spider-Man Superman,” and more.
Multiple students shared their mixed opinions about the collaboration with PartyNextDoor.
“Even though it was pretty good, the album needed more PartyNextDoor, it would’ve made it better,” Johnson said.
Some fans agreed this wasn’t some of PND’s best music either.
“PartyNextDoor is a pretty creative and talented artist; he’s done better than this in the past; I was kinda disappointed,” sophomore Angel Hernandez said. “The ‘Meet Your Padre’ song was bad, in my opinion.”
Although mostly rated average by rap fans, “Some Sexy Songs 4 U” debuted as the number one album on the Billboard Top 200, making it Drake’s 14th chart-topper and PartyNextDoor’s first.
It sold 246,000 album-equivalent units in the United States in its first week.
The success of this album has put Drake in a tie with popular artists Taylor Swift and Jay-Z for the most number-one albums by solo musicians on the chart.
