The upcoming softball season is looking to be a year of new beginnings and challenging opportunities for the team. With a new coaching staff and set of objectives, players are ready to take the field.
The new coaching staff combined with the absence of last year’s seniors is set to bring on a fresh start for the team..
In preparation for the season, the majority of returning and new players put in work throughout the offseason.
“I played travel softball, worked out with my teammates and participated in winter and fall workouts,” junior Maggie Krueger said.
“In the offseason, I play travel year round on the Indiana Mustangs,” junior Kaia Pantos said. “We play showcase tournaments in the summer and fall with weekly practices. I also workout and hit with one of the seniors, Ryleigh, at Roundtripper.”
This season is going to look different for both individuals and the entire team.
“This season will differ for me because I’m now an upperclassman and have to be a good example for the younger girls,” junior Kaelee Jacobs said. “For the team as a whole, I think we have big roles to fill after the seniors we lost last year. Despite the losses, I’m confident we will stay consistent. Also, with having all new coaches I’m sure strategy will be way different so we will all have to adapt.”
The new coaching staff is the biggest change players are facing this season.
“With the whole new coaching staff and losing four seniors, this season will differ for us due to the drastic change in leadership,” Pantos said. “We’re also looking to improve our record by winning more of our conference games.”
With each new softball season comes a new set of goals for each player. Setting these goals can lead to individual growth and team success.
“My goals are to have no errors in the outfield and try to get more people to come to softball games,” senior Gabby Stevens said.
Players are seeking improvements on and off the field.
“My goals for this season are to be a consistent hitter, pitcher, and team player,” Jacobs said. “I’m also hoping to hit a few home runs.”
The softball team has a supportive and family-like community surrounding it. These aspects of the program are what keep athletes coming back.
“My favorite part of high school softball is making such great friends that I can go to outside of softball,” Stevens said. “The fact that we share so much love for one game is so special and crucial for me as a player.”
The team has formed a home-away-from-home environment players hold dear.
“I love the bond I have with the team, it’s almost like a family,” junior Maggie Krueger said.
With high hopes and strong team chemistry, the softball team is ready to take on the season.
