The Indiana State Fair was from Friday, Aug. 2 to Sunday, Aug. 18. The fair offers entertainment to people who live in or around the Indianapolis area.
The fair is set up around the track at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Visitors have the opportunity to go fishing, feed goats, pet animals, eat food, buy souvenirs and enjoy the live music at the stage every day.
Artists at the State Fair free stage played different genres of music, including, but not limited to, music by The Beatles, Taylor Swift and Sublime.
A notable part of the fair is the different types of unique foods to try. Deep fried oreos, lemonade shake ups, funnel cakes, corn dogs and fried vegetables are some of the many foods offered.
“This year I tried the pickle pizza at the fair and it was super good,” senior Gabby Koon said, “It was pizza dough with mozzarella cheese and pickles drizzled with ranch. That was my favorite food I had this year.”
Senior Maya Montgomery-Valdez also shared her opinions on the food at the fair.
“My favorite food I had this year was deep fried oreos,” Montgomery-Valdez said, “I tried them for the first time and will definitely be getting them again next year. I also got a lemonade shake up which is a state fair classic and was really good.”
The Midway rides are also a very popular attraction at the state fair. Throughout the fair there are over 50 rides offered for visitors. To go on rides, visitors purchased individual tickets or a wristband for unlimited rides.
“My favorite part about the fair is going on the rides with my friends,” Montgomery-Valdez said, “The ferris wheel is fun because you get to see the whole fair, but I also really like the swings ride.”
The Indiana State Fair hosts animals during the two weeks it is open for competitions and the rodeo. Animals at the fair include pigs, cows, horses, sheep, chickens, alpacas and ducks.
“Sometimes I visit the animals, but I would rather spend my time on the rides and trying new food,” Montgomery-Valdez said, “Also the animals always smell really bad when I go there.”
Although the fair is a very popular attraction, some people prefer to skip out on going.
“I didn’t go to the fair this year because there are always way too many people there and it gets really crowded,” senior Ava Pressnall said, “It also always smells really bad and it is really dirty.”
Although the fair has mixed reviews, every year thousands of people show up throughout the month to enjoy the food and experiences it offers.
