The men’s college basketball season started this Monday. Many people are concerned about what the NCAA tournament will look like. The non-conference part of college basketball goes from the second week of November to the last week of December, before conference play begins.
Fans have different opinions on how they think the season will play out for different teams, and are eager to watch their favorites compete.
“My favorite team has to be IU because I’ve always liked them,” freshman Jack Campbell said.
Many fans have different reasons for why they like the team they are cheering for. Though many fans have a team they would like to win, they also have different teams that they believe will win. Fans point out the strengths and weaknesses of teams determining which one they have confidence in to win.
“Purdue is the best team because they have arguably the best college basketball player, Zach Edey,” sophomore Grant Hostetler said.
Fans are eager to watch these college teams play against each other and fight for the number one spot. Talent level for the players of men’s college basketball is high, as they work hard for their team to succeed throughout the season.
The league consists of more than 350 teams across the country. There are 32 conferences in NCAA men’s basketball. Fans have different opinions on which conference is their favorite.
“I like watching the Big 10 conference because I like watching all of the rival games,” Campbell said.
The Big 10 conference consists of 14 teams: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue and Rutgers. These teams fight hard for the trophy.
“I like the NBA better because it’s faster paced and I like the Pacers,” Hostetler said.
Many students are big fans of their hometown team.
“I like college basketball better because the NBA can get boring,” Campbell said.
Fans feel differently about NBA and college basketball. College basketball consists of many different rivalries. Unlike the NBA, college teams have the goal to win for their school. Students cheer for their school’s team throughout the season. NBA teams are located in a city and receive the support from the city they are located in and others across the country.
