Last summer, high schools across the country competed to win the opportunity to perform Disney’s “Frozen: The Broadway Musical.” One school from each state was selected to perform the popular show, and NC was granted that opportunity for Indiana.
The musical spanned the course of nine days, starting October 27 and concluding this past Saturday evening. Of the seven shows that were performed, four were completely sold-out.
Because NC was one of the 50 schools in the nation selected to perform “Frozen,” the production was granted a higher budget. This increased the anticipation among many and made more students eager to see the musical.
Expectations for the show were already high, given NC’s excellent reputation for productions, but the excitement this year was increased.
“The musical this year 100% exceeded my expectations, I think it was just incredible,” junior Edie Zumbiel said, “The overall production was outstanding and everyone did such a great job.”
Zumbiel attended opening night.
After months of countless hours rehearsing, students that participated in the musical were finally able to see their hard work and dedication pay off.
“I wouldn’t change a single thing,” junior Elijah Britt said, “Being a part of this musical has been the highlight of my time here at North Central and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.”
Britt starred as Olaf.
The talent of the actors surprised many. Whether it was the singing, dancing, sets, tech work or just overall production, many viewers were thoroughly impressed.
“This was probably the best production I’ve seen,” Zumbiel said, “It surprised me how good everyone’s voices were, especially Anna and Elsa. I’ve seen ‘Rent’ and ‘Wicked’ on Broadway and I think this was better than both of those.”
Being a part of such a large production had a lasting impact on cast members. Even though the show was only performed over the course of nine days, a strong community was built within the cast and crew.
“I’m so proud of the performance, everyone was casted perfectly and everyone was so dedicated,” Britt said, “It made the shows truly magical. The passion of every cast member, every crew member and all the directors shone throughout the show. I’ll never forget ‘Frozen’ or anyone I met from it.”
