NC’s new Future Medical Careers Club had their first official meeting last Thursday. The club was co-founded by juniors Lainey Deetz and Aaliyah Mitchell with science teacher Chelsea Willis as the teacher sponsor.
The Future Medical Careers Club is dedicated to people interested in pursuing careers in the medical field.
“I co-founded it with Aaliyah because we wanted to help create a space for people to learn more about medicine and hopefully find engaging activities to gain experience in that field,” Deetz said.
While the club is geared towards people interested in medical careers, it is not a requirement, and anyone who wants to join can do so.
“Even for people that aren’t necessarily interested in medicine, it will still be beneficial because they will be learning valuable lessons about an important field of study and will get chances to help out the community,” Deetz said.
At the last meeting, the club made uplifting cards for hospital patients. In the future. Deetz and Mitchell hope to have guest speakers who work in different medical careers come and talk to the club about what specific jobs they do. They are also hoping to find places to volunteer and do educational club activities.
“My goals for the club are to grow people’s interest and knowledge about the medical field. We’ve only had one official meeting so far, but I think it was very successful and promising. If we have guest speakers they will be able to answer any questions that we may have,” Deetz said.
Any student can join the club and is encouraged to follow the Future Medical Careers Club Instagram and join the Remind by texting @ncmed23 to 81010. All meetings will occur on the first Thursday of every month.
“I am excited to create a community at North Central dedicated to learning about medicine and helping patients,” Deetz said.
