Exciting season expected for swim team

Junior Madelyn Harvey has been swimming for 10 years. Outside of NC, Harvey swims at Riviera Swim Club. Her favorite stroke is freestyle and her favorite event is the 100 freestyle.
“I am looking forward to improving my times this season,” Harvey said.
Last year, Harvey swam the 100 Freestyle in 54.04 seconds and the 200 Freestyle in 1.58.13 minutes.
“To improve, I am pushing myself at practice and in weights to achieve better times,” Harvey said.
Harvey believes keeping up her work in the weight room and at school will add to her success this swimming season.
“One thing that bothered me was how we have to temporarily practice at Pike because of the new heaters being installed,” Harvey said.
Harvey was annoyed by the timing of the new equipment getting installed at first, but now she is thankful that the team has somewhere to swim and get better.
“I am also looking forward to being with the team this season,” Harvey said.
Harvey enjoys the team culture at NC and hopes that they continue to grow together this season. She also plays tennis here at NC.
“Playing tennis in the spring is challenging, but if you have your priorities straight, it’s not so bad being a multi-sport athlete,” Harvey said.
Harvey sees playing two sports as an opportunity to develop more confidence and athletic stability. It has also helped with her productivity and leadership skills.
The swim team is expected to have a winning season. Even though Harvey is not a senior, she hopes to be a leader on the team.
